This website is dedicated to sharing the history of ships as portrayed through the maritime art of James A. Flood, including his paintings of ships, ships biographies and photographs of some of his hand-built ship models. Jim's well-known artwork is displayed in galleries and private collections throughout the United States and Europe, as well as on the Cunard ships Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2.

In his paintings, Jim portrays each vessel in historic context. We are in the process of writing in the background events surrounding each painting. If you have some information you would like to add, please send it along; we will be most grateful.

About Jim's Models:

Webpages on the ship models display step-by-step photographs of the creation of Jim Flood's hand-built ship models, along with descriptive captions.

Then, as now, James reserves time for his top model, the Royal Charles. Designed and built to reflect the beloved flag ship of Charles II, circa late seventeenth century, this strikingly singular model can actually sail, and currently resides on the Miami River, docked near the 27th Ave. Bridge. in Miami, Florida.

Prints:

Many of Jim's paintings are available as offset lithographs, serio-lithographs, and paper and canvas digital reproductions (giclées). Our paper giclées are made using Epson K3 Ultrachrome inks and durable, acid-free paper. Our canvas giclées are made using museum quality canvas and Epson K3 Ultrachrome inks or (largest canvas giclées) Roland pigmented inks. These materials have been selected to offer a wide color gamut while still providing state of the art lightfast properties.

Editions:

Edition sizes and formats are noted on each image's webpage.

We have open and limited edition offset lithographs. Both come signed by the artist; the limited edition lithographs are numbered.

Our giclées are print-on-demand; both open and limited editions come signed, numbered and recorded. Open editon digital reproductions are individually printed with a recorded ID number. Limited edition digital reproductions come numbered in a standard format and recorded. Both are signed by the artist.

When ordered through us, signed and stamped certificates of authenticity accompany any limited edition offset lithograph or open/limited edition giclée print. It carries the name of the image, the name of the artist, material description, the artist's signature, the date of signing, a list of all editions pertaining to the image, and is stamped by the artist's seal.
