This view portrays HMS Duke of York at sea off the North Cape of Norway searching for the German battle cruiser Scharnhorst who she will meet and sink in the evening of this day. She is under the command of Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser.

A wireless telegraphist on board HMS Duke of York, he engaged in arctic convoys, sorties against Tirpitz, and the famous Battle of North Cape in December of 1943 involving the sinking of Scharnhorst.
