Painting of Queen Victoria Joins the Fleet
Queen Victoria Joins the Fleet is a painting by maritime artist James A Flood, painted in commemoration of the historic event of the three Cunarder’s meeting in New York Harbor in 2008.
RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 and MS Queen Victoria arrived to the harbor together in a tandem voyage from Southampton. Each will continue on in their individual world cruises. It is the first world cruise for Queen Victoria. It will be the last for Queen Elizabeth 2. She is destined for retirement, her future uncertain.
In this painting the three Cunard Queens are portrayed meeting in New York Harbor on the 13th of January 2008. Spanning the background from the left is the statue of liberty followed by the skyscrapers of Newark and Manhattan. Governor’s Island and Brooklyn are visible to the far right.
